Lance Isaacs Racing – Round 1 Media Release

Cape Town 25th March 2017: The opening round of the SuperGP Champions Trophy at the home turf of Lance Isaacs Racing at Killarney International Raceway was filled with well deserved success of victories in SuperM and a podium in the SuperGP Class.

The road to the first race of the 2017 season was tough and uncertain for team principle and rider Lance Isaacs. Just three weeks before the lights turned green at the 3,2km Killarney track Supabets Gaming Group confirmed the title sponsorship for Lance Isaacs Racing, providing the team with the means to run the second season in its existence.

The preparations for the first race were hectic to say the least but it saw the true family spirit spring to life within the team. It was therefore a big relief for everyone involved when Lance Isaacs was consistently in the top 3 during the first practice sessions on Friday. “The Supabets / Sandton BMW Motorrad Racing S1000RR felt immediately very strong on the track.” Before the final session on Friday – Qualifying – the team made changes to the BMW S1000RR that proved counterproductive. The set-up change combined with too much traffic on his flying lap resulted in P6 on the grid for the Saturday races. Overnight the team worked hard to make more changes and during warm up, the BMW Motorrad machine felt extremely good for Lance.

Starting from the second row on the grid, Isaacs couldn’t take advantage of his position and dropped a few places in the big field of 24 riders. Gradually during the race Lance found his rhythm and started to gain positions. After settling in fourth position, he managed to consistently close the gap to the top-3 riders and in the final lap he was able to overtake Gildenhuys to take the checkered flag for third position in SuperGP and claim the victory in SuperM. “This podium feels like a victory for me and my team,” Lance elaborated after he received his trophy.

Race two of the day was almost decided at the start of the race. The top-3 of the field managed to pull away in the opening lap and Lance was caught into traffic in the first corner. By the time he was clear in fourth position, the leading pack were gone in the distance. Isaacs was able to secure his fourth position in the SuperGP and another victory in the SuperM after the shortened 10 lap race.

This was an amazing race for Supabets / Sandton BMW Motorrad Racing. We all worked extremely hard ahead of this first race and if we can achieve this result already, there is a lot more to come from us. I can foresee that we will be fighting for the top step of the podium in the next few races. I am also very proud of my team mate Justin Gillesen who managed to make a successful return to the racing scene with a top 5 position in the SuperM.
